Homebox is the module that makes possible what you have probably seen on the drupal.org user dashboard. Homebox creates a page on your site where you can have a number of draggable blocks with all sorts of content.

The module is great for cases in which administrators want to create sort of dashboards (my mind cannot not go to drupal.org on this) for their users to keep content nice and ordered but also to allow them to customize the containers somewhat. The blocks are draggable to reorder and users can minimize, maximize and even temporarily hide them. Moreover they can play with colors and all sorts of stuff.

Any blocks can be made available for the homebox pages by the administrator and for users to make use of in their dashboard. Pretty neat no? Check it out. Also, make sure you become aware of the multitude of modules built specifically for making your life easier when dealing with blocks.

Hope this helps.
